    Swatch Out

Color Theory (K-2). NOTE: You will need to purchase Swatch Out Puzzlets to play this game. View Purchase Options

Use the Play Tray included in the Puzzlets Starter Pack with Swatch Out Puzzlets tiles. Match enemy colors, then draw around them to swatch them out! Mix up to three colors at a time to change the color of Pizza Swigglesworth, a chameleon with a weird name. All 80 levels require changing colors many times, while reinforcing 20 color names by showing them on the screen.

    Before You Begin

    1. Verify you have all 5 Paint Puzzlets tiles: Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, and White.
    2. Make sure your device is updated to the latest OS. Consult your device’s manual on how to update.
    3. If you get a message about updating your Play Tray firmware, consult the Firmware Update instructions.

    Getting Started

    1. Launch the Swatch Out app.
    2. Create a player profile. Enter the player’s name and age. Email address is optional. This information can be changed at anytime by tapping the “Pencil” icon.
    3. You can create 1,000+ player profiles, perfect for multiple classrooms.
    4. The game begins immediately.

    Game Overview

    1. The object of the game is to match the color of the foe(s) on screen, then tap around the foes(s) to encircle them, thus eliminating them.
    2. The player has infinite health and cannot lose. However, taking too much damage means they may not collect the trophy for that level.
    3. The 12 worlds of Swatch Out each focus on a different aspect of Color Theory. This makes it easy to designate a specific lesson. Note that worlds are unlocked in sequence, for example, World 3 is unlocked after all levels in World 2 have been cleared.
      World 1            3 Primary Colors
      Worlds 2-4     3 Secondary Colors
Worlds 5-10    6 Tints & Shades of Primary & Secondary Colors
Worlds 11-12   Warm & Cool Colors

    Controls for Tablets/Phones

    1. Tap Around an Enemy of matching color to defeat it. Pizza will leave a color trail behind when moving to the next location the player has tapped. The area will fill in with paint then fade away over time.
Note: The color trail has a limited length, and if it maxes out in length, it will pull from the beginning of the line. This is to prevent the player from drawing very large shapes.
    2. Confuse Enemies: If Pizza’s color does not match the color of the enemy, the enemy will become stunned with a question mark over its head.
    3. Special Move: Feeling trapped? Tap on Pizza Swigglesworth to create a sonic boom, which pushes nearby enemies away.
    4. Level/World Select: Tap on the left and right arrows see other levels. Tap on a level to enter.
    5. End of Level Overlay: Tap on the retry button to play the level again or tap the right arrow button to go to the next level.

    Controls for Mac Computers

    1. Click Around an Enemy of matching color to defeat it.
Click directly on Pizza Swigglesworth to create a sonic boom, which pushes nearby enemies away.
    4. Level/World Select: Click on the left and right arrows see other levels. Click on a level to enter.
    5. End of Level Overlay: Click the retry button to play the level again or click the right arrow button to go to the next level.

    Screen Breakdown: Level Select

Notes on the Level/World Select Screen

    1. World Title shows what aspect is featured in the currently selected set of levels.
    2. Completed Levels can be replayed at any time.
    3. Trophies collected from levels: A level has been completely conquered when the player ends the level with the required number of stars.
    4. Locked Level will be unlocked when the previous level has been completed.
    5. Tap/Click a Next World arrow to go to the next world.

    Screen Breakdown: Gameplay

    Notes on the Gameplay Screen

    1. You, as Pizza Swigglesworth, change colors based on what Paint Puzzlets are on the Play Tray.
    2. Foes can only be defeated if the player matches their color. In certain cases, foes will have a color above their head which the player must match in order to defeat them. If the player collides with a foe, they will lose a star or two.
    3. Shapes You Have Drawn will quickly fade over time. They are only effective in defeating enemies when they are first drawn.
    4. Your Current Line, when you draw back over it to encircle foes, has a limited length. The player must be judicious when drawing an encircling shape.
    5. Stars You Have Collected displays the player’s stars and the total stars needed for a trophy in that level. By combo-ing multiple foes at once, many more bonus stars can be earned.

    Constantly Challenging

While it’s easy to get to the end of the level, it’s very difficult to keep all of your stars (earned from surrounding enemies). Each time the player gets hit, a star is lost. Combo-ing large groups of enemies earns bonus stars. As players become more comfortable with identifying colors and changing their character’s color quickly, they will earn enough stars to get a crown on every level!
