Big Hardware Improvements for a Little Robot

While Vector's appearance will remain largely unchanged from the current generation, there are a couple of hardware improvements that will make a big difference in this little robot:
  • Increased Battery Life - a new battery will provide as much as 30% more runtime. (Batteries can also be replaced more easily via the redesigned battery compartment.)
  • Improved Camera Resolution - a new 2MP camera will enhance Vector's facial recognition; improving his ability to recognize pets and even know if someone is smiling.

Vector requires an app for setup, but after that, all interactions with Vector are done with eye contact and talking. He’s a live robot living in your house; no need to bring your phone between the two of you.

If you are interested in how Vector’s feeling, the app offers a visualization of his mood and stimulation. It’s also where you can view his robot and human selfies.

Vector Escape Pod

The Escape Pod will allow Vector to function without any external servers, and is an insurance policy if Digital Dream Labs is no longer able to maintain Vector. This level is good for those who are concerned that server access would discontinue in the future, or for those hobbyists who want to use their own infrastructure, server, etc. The user will be able to bypass the current app/firmware and use other applications and firmware that the community may generate.

Open Source Plus Escape Pod

The OSKR is for the hardcore hobbyist or professional who would like to create their own features to sell themselves or license/sell it to us to sell to all of our users. Think of this being an "app store" for a robot. You will be able to modify the source code on your robot to adjust behaviors, animations, and more. This is a far deeper experience than the current SDK.
